Beauty and the Beast: A brave Hawaiian model saves great white sharks (11 photos)

Horrific stories of people mauled by great white sharks appear in the news regularly—these terrifying predators have long been a symbol of ruthlessness. But this brave girl isn't afraid of becoming dinner for toothy sharks and fearlessly splashes with them in the ocean waters. See disturbing photos of this fragile beauty surrounded by these enormous predators in our article.

Ocean Ramsey dives into the ocean depths every day to twirl in a deadly circle with great white sharks. She takes a deep breath and dives to a depth of more than three meters. Ocean studies animal behavior and advocates for the protection of these endangered predators. The model speaks out on social media about the plight of great white sharks.

Ocean Ramsey is from Oahu, Hawaii. Recently, she took social media by storm by posting stunning footage of herself swimming alongside a six-meter, 50-year-old shark named Deep Blue. This isn't the first time the beauty has gotten up close and personal with these enormous predators.

Ocean spends time swimming with sharks and posts photos of her adventures on Instagram. The model has over 500,000 followers, and she educates them about the need to protect sharks.

The model first gained international attention in 2012, when videos surfaced online of her swimming on the back of a great white shark named Bella. Ocean is an experienced diver, able to hold her breath for up to six minutes and dive to depths of over 50 meters.

"People don't know a lot about sharks. They think sharks want to attack them, but that's far from true. "Most of the time, sharks are afraid of us," explains Ocean.

What would be many people's worst nightmare is routine for the brave diver.

"I'm not afraid to swim with sharks. They behave more predictably than humans," the model asserts.

The model says that approximately 100 million sharks are killed by humans every year. Most of the time, they are killed for their fins, which are considered a delicacy in Chinese cuisine.

You've probably heard of the famous shark fin soup. Ocean claims it's tasteless and not at all healthy. In fact, this soup is poisonous. It's served in restaurants as a delicacy to people wishing to demonstrate their high social status. To satisfy these gourmets, shark populations are being reduced by over 90%.

"Every story needs a bad guy. After films like Jaws, for example, it's very easy to manipulate human psychology and further spread ideas of absurd terror. To calm people down, it's enough to just show them these animals swimming peacefully and not attacking anyone. "This is the state they spend 99% of their time in," says Ocean.

People previously feared that shark attacks would become more frequent as global warming drew them ever closer to coastal waters. Many shark attacks have been recorded in popular holiday destinations, such as Mallorca and the Cornish coast. In 2018, a tourist from the Czech Republic was killed by a shark while vacationing with his family at a popular resort on the Red Sea in Egypt.

The shark conservationist surrounds herself with like-minded people, including her friend, diver, and photographer Juan Oliphant. At home in Hawaii, Ocean is actively involved with the organization One Ocean Research and Diving.

The women who belong to this organization dive daily to help people learn more about shark physiology, behavior, and body language. They also teach people that it's completely safe to interact with these animals.

Great white sharks are the most dangerous predators of all marine animals. But Ocean tries to help people understand them better. She's in awe of sharks' abilities and says spending time in their company is the best time of her life.

A brave and beautiful girl took on the fragile mission of saving the most dangerous animals of the deep sea. She stood up to a world that considers sharks a terrible evil. Looking at the model's graceful figure in a bikini against the backdrop of enormous jaws, you can't help but think that beauty will save both the world and sharks.

Would you join Ocean on her underwater excursions with great white sharks?
