GTA-style robbery in Italy
Several armed robbers staged an ambush and shootout on a highway in Italy. They blocked the road in front of a cash-in-transit van and used explosives to try to steal the money.
In Puglia, Italy, an armored van carrying a large sum of money was attacked on the Brindisi-Lecce highway. The armed robbers blocked the road, opened fire on the escort vehicle, and then used explosives to try to steal the money, but were unsuccessful.
Before fleeing in stolen cars (one of which had flashing lights), they scattered nails on the asphalt, but this was of no avail. After a brief chase and shootout, three suspects were apprehended, and three more are still missing.
There were no casualties. An off-duty police officer was injured when the attackers drove his car into a ditch when he tried to stop them.
