Jacob's Well (25 photos)
In Texas, the largest state in the United States, lies a perennial karst spring called Jacob's Well. Situated in the bed of Cypress Creek in Wimberley County, this enormous crevice is four meters in diameter, 10 meters deep, and extends for approximately 40 meters. Among the springs feeding the well is a tributary of the Blanco River, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico.
Jacob's Well was discovered in 1850 and has been incredibly popular with swimmers and divers ever since. Near the bottom, a branching network of water galleries has formed, which remain unexplored. Eight divers have died attempting to penetrate Jacob's Well's chambers. However, the site remains popular.
