It's not Photoshopped! 12 photos that are hard to believe are real (13 photos)
It's becoming increasingly difficult to determine the authenticity of photographs, as almost everyone knows how to use Photoshop and tries to "improve" them. Because of this, edited images are often mistaken for the real thing. Or vice versa...
Below, we'd like to show you a dozen photographs that many people mistakenly believe to be Photoshopped. What's happening in them is so astonishing, it's hard to believe.
Coming apart at the seams
It looks like someone carefully "cut" this road with a utility knife. In fact, the photo shows the aftermath of a major earthquake in Japan. It's safe to assume the lanes were built separately, which is why they diverged so precisely.
Half black, half ginger
Venus the cat was born with a rare anomaly: her body is made up of genetically different cells. This phenomenon is called chimerism. As a result, Venus has different-colored eyes and a rather unusual pattern, seemingly stenciled.
Man-Made Clouds
People are used to thinking that clouds can only be seen in the sky, but Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde has his own opinion on the matter. He skillfully recreates floating objects right in museum spaces. And they look so lifelike that looking at them, you want to pinch yourself: is this really a dream?
A Monument to Egoism
63-year-old Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan decided to immortalize himself in a rather unusual way. He wrote his name in the sand so it could be seen even from space. It took a team of specialists a whole week to "write" the gigantic word "HAMAD" on a small island. The inscription reached 1 km in height and 3 km in length, making it easily visible from satellites. However, today not a trace remains of this monument to egoism.
Square Waves
Square waves? Is that even possible?! It is, if we're talking about a phenomenon called cross-waves. This is a sea state with two wave systems moving at right or sharp angles. Some waves are caused by specific weather conditions, others by wind direction.
Such waves typically create fairly strong currents, making them dangerous for both swimmers and ships.
Flamingo Flash Mob
It seems incredible that these birds are lined up in the shape of... a bird! However, renowned photographer Robert B. Haas won't let you lie. The photo does indeed depict a huge and completely real flock of flamingos resting in shallow water off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Perhaps we're missing something, and these birds are staging a flash mob?
Fish with Human Teeth
Seeing photos like these online, we immediately think we've stumbled upon yet another photomontage. In this case, I'd even like it to be true, because those teeth in a fish's mouth look so disgusting.
However, the photo shows a very real (and edible) fish called the brown pacu. It has large, rectangular teeth, making them incredibly similar to human teeth. With its powerful jaws, the pacu can not only bite through the body of its prey but also crack walnuts.
Pink Lake
This amazing pink lake, called Retba in the Wolof language, is located near the Cape Verde Peninsula. The shore here is white as milk, and the water is pink as cranberry jelly, giving this body of water an utterly magical appearance.
This lake's unique color is due to the presence of cyanobacteria. These are one of the few microorganisms capable of surviving in such salty water: the Pink Lake has a salt concentration of 380 grams per liter, 1.5 times greater than the Dead Sea.
Professional Zombie Billy Owen
There's not a drop of Photoshop in this photo! Just like there's no magic in it. This is an American named Billy Owen, who lost part of his nasopharynx, upper palate, and right eye to a rare form of cancer. Now he can scare people with tricks like this: to get his finger into his eye socket, he just needs to remove his prosthetic plate.
Billy used to be a mechanic, but now he makes his living playing zombies in films, music videos, freak shows, and on television.
Fish within a fish
It seems this dogfish was simply not destined to survive. At first, a group of scientists tried to catch the fish, but just as they had their prey hooked, a shark's mouth suddenly emerged from the sea. With one skillful and precise movement, the shark swallowed the spiny dogfish, then disappeared back into the water.
Black and white effect
Everyone who sees this photograph is 100% sure that it's nothing more than a clever photo manipulation. In fact, the image depicts a hibiscus bush covered in volcanic ash. After the volcanic eruption, a new flower suddenly bloomed on it. This photo was taken in Indonesia, a country with high volcanic activity.
A bull with enormous horns
And this, unfortunately, is not Photoshopped either. The horns of this Watussi bull are quite real, and each one reaches almost 100 centimeters in length! However, the animal, named Kren, died in 2010 due to cancerous tumors that developed in its horns.
