Local Chinese brands have reached the same level of customer satisfaction as foreign brands.
The China Quality Association has published its latest user satisfaction rating for new energy vehicles (NEVs), including electric and hybrid vehicles. Overall satisfaction has improved, but certain quality issues remain. Among the top performers in specific segments are both domestic and foreign brands.
The average market satisfaction index reached 80 points out of 100—one point higher than the previous year. Both electric cars and hybrids individually have the same rating, but satisfaction with electric cars is now 2 points higher than it was in 2024. However, NEVs still lag behind vehicles with conventional powertrains in this regard.

In terms of the number of malfunctions per 100 new vehicles, local brands perform better than foreign brands. However, the market average increased by 18 points, reaching 109. Researchers noted that modern technologies, including digital cockpits and advanced driver assistants, are the most problematic for users. They accounted for approximately 60% of all complaints.
Researchers identified specific models in various market segments with which users are most satisfied. For example, among compact electric vehicles, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV was noted, among slightly larger ones, the VW ID.3 and Tesla Model 3, and among crossovers, the Audi Q4 e-tron, Tesla Model Y, and several Lixiang models. In addition, the ranking included hybrid SUVs from the Tank brand and a number of BYD electric and hybrid vehicles.

The study was conducted using a survey, in which more than 25,000 Chinese respondents participated this year. They were asked about their opinions on quality, reliability, performance, and design, as well as their attitudes toward sales and after-sales service.
