A photo of a dancing baby gorilla won the funniest animal photo contest (8 photos)

A high-five photo featuring a young male Rwandan gorilla also took first place in the Mammals category. Other winners included a monkey eating its own boogers and many other funny animals.





A photo of a baby gorilla from a national park in Rwanda has been named the funniest in the world in the 2025 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards. This was announced on the competition website. British photographer Mark Met Cohen captured the moment a young primate dances across a forest clearing, "greeting" the viewer with a raised paw.

Cohen said he spent several days in the Virunga Mountains, where his team observed a gorilla family group known as Amahoro. While the adults were quietly gathering food, the babies played nearby, and one baby stood out in particular – he somersaulted, kicked his legs high, and behaved like a true acrobat, making for the perfect comical shot.

The organizers note that the 2025 competition broke a record: nearly 10,000 entries from more than a hundred countries were submitted to the jury, but it was the "dancing" gorilla that captivated the experts with its combination of humor, dynamism, and the animal's "human" emotions.

Although another series of photos featuring monkeys was also among the winners. The jury was captivated by the images of a primate eating its own boogers.
