Recently, you can visit a RoboCop statue in Detroit. The bronze sculpture, approximately 3.3 meters tall, has appeared in the Eastern Market district. 
A permanent home has finally been found for a bronze RoboCop sculpture in Detroit's Eastern Market district. The approximately 3.3-meter-tall, 1.6-ton monument was installed in front of the Free Age video production studio.
According to Jim Toscano, co-owner of the studio, the statue was secured to its pedestal on Wednesday afternoon and immediately attracted the attention of local residents. Despite a snowstorm and bitter cold, a line formed in front of the monument, as people rushed to see the new city landmark.
The project's history began back in 2011. Back then, a user from Massachusetts tweeted to then-Detroit Mayor Dave Bing: "Philly has a Rocky statue, and RoboCop would kick Rocky's ass." He would be a great ambassador for Detroit."
The idea captured the imagination of Brandon Walley, board president of the public art group Imagination Station. He launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and raised $67,436.
Detroit sculptor Giorgio Djikas spent three years creating the statue. The work was completed in 2017, but a site for its installation was not approved until 2022. The location was kept secret until the very moment of installation.
"We were looking for a place for the RoboCop statue, and you're at the entrance to Eastern Market. It would be perfect," Jim Toscano recalls Walley saying. At first, he thought it was a joke. Three years later, the monument was finally installed.
The film is set in a futuristic, dystopian Detroit. It grossed $53.4 million and launched a franchise, spawning sequels, two TV series, video games, and a 2014 remake.
Jim Toscano is thrilled to be able to give a beloved character a permanent home. "It means a lot. We, filmmakers, fans of film and pop culture, and even regular people, have been working on this for so long. It's something fun for Detroit," he shared.
