The 50-year-old Titanic star expressed the opinion that modern women have forgotten about true beauty. They are obsessed with looking perfect for the sake of social media popularity. The actress has long supported the idea of self-acceptance and has never resorted to rejuvenating injections.
In an interview with The Times, she noted that more and more people are resorting to cosmetic procedures, both major and minor: "It's terrible. I see someone and I think, 'No, not you!' Why does this happen? It's destructive. When a person's self-esteem is so dependent on their appearance, it's alarming." Sometimes I see actresses at events who dress however they want, in any style, yet many of them take weight-loss drugs. Some choose to be themselves, while others strive to be the complete opposite. Do they realize what they're getting into? The neglect of their health is appalling."
Winslet is upset that the younger generation has lost its sense of true beauty.
Kate has always been vocal on this issue. Last year, she revealed that she chose to reveal her belly fat after advice from a film crew member.
Earlier in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, the British actress admitted that she's not afraid to look imperfect on screen: "I'm proud of it because my face reflects my life, and that's important. I have no intention of hiding it."
The star has rejected surgical procedures for many years, claiming they conflict with her moral principles, upbringing, and ideas about natural beauty.
Instead, she prioritizes self-care.
"Sleep and health are the key to looking fresh. If I'm overtired or stressed, no amount of makeup or hair can hide it on my face," she shared.
Kate maintains a balanced diet, sharing cooking duties with her vegan husband, Ned Able Smith. However, before hitting the red carpet, she forgoes her favorite treats.
"I try to take care of myself in the days leading up to an event. Nothing special or expensive... My main advice is to drink water. Stay hydrated, and your skin will thank you."
"I want to tell any woman who aspires to the Hollywood look: it's an illusion. Honestly, it's just a myth," she said in an interview with Vogue magazine.
"Women on the red carpet have to spend four hours on hair and makeup to achieve that look. They also have to do face masks every day for a week before the event. I know because I've been there."
"The secret to aging, in my opinion, is accepting yourself and recognizing that change is inevitable. Of course, you can maintain your health and take care of your skin to feel better and stay young longer. But for me, it's more important that beauty comes from within."
Last week, the Oscar winner premiered her first directorial effort, "Goodbye June," in London. She attended the premiere with her 21-year-old son, Joe Anders, who wrote the screenplay.
Kate, who played the lead role in the drama, walked the red carpet in a black dress with a plunging neckline and belt. Joe, the son of 60-year-old director Sam Mendes, chose a classic black tuxedo. It paired perfectly with a white shirt and matching trousers. Elegant shoes completed the look.
Kate divorced Sam in 2010 after seven years of marriage, and Joe subsequently adopted the stage name Anders.
Kate's children have continued her career in the film industry. Anders starred alongside his mother in the film "Lee" and appeared in the Oscar-nominated war drama "1917," directed by his father.
Winslet's 24-year-old daughter, Mia Threapleton, born to Kate's first husband, actor Jim Threapleton, is also making a name for herself as a talented actress.
She won acclaim for her role alongside her mother in the BAFTA-winning family drama "I Am Ruth."
Winslet has a younger son, 11-year-old Bear, with her third husband, Edward Abel Smith, Richard Branson's nephew.
