Azerbaijani gymnast Tofiq Aliyev, who won a silver medal at the World Games in Chengdu, China, thanks to a unique element, admitted that he first saw the trick in a dream.
"I don't think anyone will repeat this element for the next 20-30 years. It's very risky. Even though I didn't win gold, the attention to my performance was enormous. I became a favorite among many tumbling fans. After my move, fans began attacking the official IOC Instagram page*, asking why tumbling isn't an Olympic sport yet."
The gymnast added that he wants to win gold at the European and World Championships in the future, and then retire after performing several difficult elements. He also admits his desire to one day coach the national tumbling team.
Aliyev also shared how he first decided to try the risky trick: "About three months before the tournament, I saw this element in a dream. The next day, my assistant coach and I decided to give it a try. "The first time it didn't work out, but the second time I landed well. When I made it to the World Games finals, I said to myself, 'Why not?'"
