Norwegians checked the real range of 24 electric cars (4 photos)
Norwegian automobile publication Motor shared the results of an experiment, the purpose of which was to check not only the range of 24 electric cars in real winter conditions, but also to compare them with the indicators promised by the manufacturers. The Polestar 3, which is not very popular in Europe, showed the best results, and the Tesla Model 3 was at the bottom of the rating.
The test electric cars moved along a route on public roads in the north direction from Oslo at an air temperature of -6 to 7 degrees Celsius and an altitude difference of just under 1000 m. The movement stopped when the battery's energy reserve dropped to 10%.
The twin-motor Polestar 3 Long Range version was able to travel the furthest. Its real power reserve was 531 km. In addition, this electric car became the leader in compliance with the passport indicators, deviating from them by only 5% - the crossover did not reach the declared maximum by only 29 km. Tesla Model 3 traveled exactly the same distance, but for it the manufacturer promises 702 km without recharging. The discrepancy is 24%, and this is the fourth result from the end. Only Peugeot e-5008, Voyah Dream and Peugeot e-3008 are worse. The latter has a discrepancy with the factory specifications of 32%.
In terms of maximum mileage, the fresh Kia EV3 and Porsche Taycan showed themselves well, having covered 499 km with a lag from the passport values of 15 and 16%, respectively. The minimum range of Voyah Dream is only 344 km, despite its impressive 108.5-kilowatt battery. In fact, the assessment of the discrepancy with the factory indicators was introduced precisely in order to neutralize the influence of the difference in battery capacity on the results of the experiment.
For 17 of the 24 electric cars participating in the test, manufacturers declare a range of more than 500 km, but in reality only two cars exceeded this mark. It is worth noting that such tests are carried out regularly in Norway. This is due to the popularity of electric transport in the country, where by the end of 2024, battery-powered cars occupied 89% of the market.
