An App That Creates an AI Version of a Deceased Relative

The company 2Wai has unveiled an app that allows users to create an AI avatar of their relative and then continue communicating with it after the death of their loved one.

The commercial features a pregnant woman communicating with an AI avatar of her late mother. The "grandmother" then tells a story to her grandson, then communicates with a grown boy over many years, and finally, an adult man shares the news that his grandmother will become a great-grandmother.

Many saw a direct resemblance to the Black Mirror episode "Be Right Back," in which an AI replaces a deceased person, first in the form of a chat app and then in the form of an android.

Many are calling for this technology to be destroyed, as it will make it even more difficult for people to let go of those who have passed away.
