A collection of 46 rare Ferraris will be auctioned off (10 photos)
Mecum Auction House will auction off the Ferrari collection assembled by American businessman Phil Bachman in January. He has been collecting Ferraris for over 40 years, and his collection includes many examples with symbolic mileage that could fetch millions of dollars.
Among the vintage Ferraris, auctioneers highlight a 1975 365 GT4 BB with 443 kilometers on the odometer and a 1989 Testarossa with 413 kilometers on the odometer. Among the more modern models, notable are, for example, two 33-year-old Ferrari F40s, one with 1,392 kilometers on the odometer, and the other with 734 kilometers on the odometer.
The most pristine supercar in the collection is considered to be the LaFerrari Aperta, with only 154 kilometers on the odometer. The oldest example in the collection is a 1953 166 MM/53 Spider. This car was driven more frequently, having covered 37,300 kilometers. Finally, the businessman's rarest car is one of only 30 2006 Ferrari FXXs ever produced.
24 of the 46 cars have a yellow exterior color, which was considered Bachmann's favorite hue. When commissioning a new piece for his collection, the businessman often chose it as a background, interspersing it with various accents—red, blue, green, or white. It is believed that this was Bachmann's way of distinguishing his cars from other Ferraris, traditionally painted red. The collection is being offered for sale on behalf of the foundation of the late collector's wife, Martha Bachmann.
