I Grew Up in a Different Era: J.K. Rowling Criticizes Glamour Magazine for Including Transgender People* in its "Women of the Year 2025" List (4 photos)
This is not the first time the author of "Harry Potter" has spoken out against the policies of tolerance and diversity that continue to be imposed on British society.
Since 2019, J.K. Rowling has defended her position that the term "woman" should only refer to biological women. For this opinion, she has been repeatedly criticized by celebrities, publishers, and filmmakers adapting her works. In December 2019, Rowling publicly supported Maya Forstater, who was fired from her position as a research fellow at the international think tank Centre for Global Development due to her views on the nature of gender. The British writer claimed that a man could never become a woman, even through surgery and hormone therapy. For defending Forstater, the writer was labeled a TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminist) and was labeled a transphobe.
She subsequently criticized the term "menstruating person" and even wrote an essay that sparked so-called TERF wars on Twitter.
Most recently, Glamour magazine published a list of women worthy of the proud title of "Woman of the Year 2025," and included transgender people on the list. According to the editors, they "work tirelessly to support and inspire other transgender people"—perhaps this was the reason for the journalists' choice. The glossy magazine placed all non-binary people on the cover, which drew sharp criticism from Rowling, who made the following statement on the social network X:
"I grew up in an era when women's magazines told girls they needed to be thinner and prettier. And now these same magazines tell girls men are better women than they are."
British journalist Piers Morgan also joined in the criticism of the glossy magazine. which predicted the magazine's decline.
"Nine biological men declaring Glamour magazine's 'Women of the Year' is no longer a parody, even by the ridiculous standards of political correctness... and I suspect this is the beginning of the end for Glamour magazine."
Naturally, as usual, in the comments, supporters of inclusivity called for the "cancellation" of Rowling, Yu, and Morgan. However, the writer has already stated that she would rather serve time in prison for her views than deny the importance of biological sex.
