Toyota unveiled a tiny truck kit that will be sold partially disassembled (2 photos)
At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Toyota unveiled the tiny IMV Origin truck, which appears unfinished. The company called this "intentional incompleteness": the vehicle is proposed for delivery to developing markets—in particular, Africa—in a semi-knocked-down state so that it can be assembled on-site using simple tools.
The IMV Origin is a modular vehicle base that can be customized for specific applications. For example, it can be equipped with a cargo bed or, conversely, configured for passenger transport.
The new vehicle was developed with rural Africa in mind. Further assembly and customization of the IMV Origin could create additional jobs in the region.
Neither technical specifications nor dimensions of the Toyota IMV Origin are available. The car shown in Tokyo has only a single driver's seat, a frame with a plastic screen and roof, and a flatbed. ![]()
