Kreyvik's Multiverse – a prehistoric landscape emerging in the 21st century (30 photos + 1 video)

This place is deceptive at first glance. It seems as if you've stumbled upon an ancient Celtic sanctuary: stone circles, spiraling megaliths, and solitary menhirs—everything seems ripe for mysterious rituals.





But this "antiquity" is actually a grand hoax, a creation of our time.



The owner of these lands near Sanquhar in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, the Duke of Buccleuch, was faced with the need to transform an abandoned coal mine. He turned to Charles Jencks, a landscape guru and creator of the famous Garden of Cosmic Speculation. The task was ambitious: to transform an industrial scar into a public asset.





Jenks set to work with enthusiasm, creating a mesmerizing blend of cosmology and Celtic spirit. Using thousands of boulders scattered on the ground, he erected standing stones, Neolithic chamber tombs, and stone circles. Thus was born the Craywick Multiverse.



The final result was an almost otherworldly landscape, exuding ancient magic. But these monuments actually have a cosmic essence. Two stone circles represent the Andromeda and Milky Way galaxies, moving inexorably toward each other. The 5,000-seat amphitheater symbolizes a solar eclipse. And along a spiral path called the Multiverse, you can walk through myriad universes, depicted in carved lines on the stones.



There's also a place for the mundane here. Trails wind through the area, leading through zones representing different ecosystems—meadows, bodies of water, mountains, and deserts.
