In September 2023, Toyota unveiled a prototype crossover called the Century GRMN. At that time, the manufacturer said that the new product should demonstrate the latest technologies and future design direction, but now the brand's management has announced plans to launch the car into production.
Today, the show car is at the disposal of the company's chairman of the board of directors, Akio Toyoda, who said that he is so pleased with the car that he wants to make it available to a wider audience. The top manager announced his statement during an event for Chinese Century owners.
“The Century that I own is the only GRMN that exists at the moment. But I want to make a GRMN that many people around the world can drive,” Toyoda emphasized.
The prototype, presented a year ago, was externally different from the standard Century. It was equipped with an aerodynamic body kit made of carbon fiber, sliding doors, and 22-inch wheels.
No details about the technical equipment were disclosed, but the GR emblem is usually received by cars from the Toyota Gazoo Racing division. So we can assume that the model received a more powerful engine compared to the standard crossover, a reconfigured suspension and more tenacious brakes.
The serial Century crossovers are equipped with a hybrid powertrain based on a 3.5-liter V6 with a capacity of 412 horsepower. It also includes an e-CVT transmission and a Toyota E-Four Advanced all-wheel drive system.
According to preliminary data, the newest Toyota Century GRMN will be sold not only in Japan, but also in China. There is no talk yet about the appearance of the new product in other markets, nor is the premiere date of the new sports SUV disclosed.
