Yelang Valley - the long stone dream of an ancient tribe came true (22 photos + 1 video)
In the Chinese province of Guizhou, amidst the dense forest, there lies a wondrous place. Here, stone giants tower above the emerald carpet of grass. Their eyes, as if frozen in eternal vigil, gaze into the endless rolling hills. 
Although these stone creatures resemble magical messengers from a long-vanished civilization, they are actually a relatively recent arrival. 
These stunning creations are the work of Song Peilun, an artist, cartoonist, and former professor. He dedicated over 20 years to designing and creating an entire village of stone sculptures. The gigantic collection, known as Yelang Valley, spreads over 185,000 square meters. It includes castles, lakes, and freestanding towers, the walls of which are adorned with mysterious faces.

Local masons assisted in the construction. Since they had no artistic experience, Peilun instructed them to work as if they were making ordinary cattle pens, not sculptures. 
The Crazy Horse Memorial is a rock monument dedicated to the Oglala Indian chief, South Dakota, USA.
The idea for Yelang Valley came to Peilun after a visit to the Crazy Horse Memorial in the United States. He left his professorship and purchased the then-remote, remote plot of land. The artist chose stone for his park because it was abundantly available, making it environmentally friendly and inexpensive. 
Yelang Valley is his way of honoring the Yelang tribes who inhabited these lands nearly two thousand years ago. They disappeared, leaving almost no trace behind. 
Although this area was once remote and rural, university buildings have now sprung up nearby. Students sometimes help Peilun continue his work on this ever-evolving artistic universe.
