October 21st is officially Back to the Future Day. Guitar company Gibson celebrated the film's 40th anniversary with an exclusive collection. These are two ES-345 guitars in cherry red, just like Marty McFly's.
Remember the scene at the school dance where Marty plays "Johnny B. Goode"? That scene inspired thousands of guitarists to pick up a guitar. Fun fact: the original guitar from the film has still not been found—Gibson even launched a dedicated website collecting clues from people around the world.
The collection includes several unique offerings.
There will be two versions of the guitar. The premium Gibson Custom "1955" ES-345 Collector's Edition—only 88 pieces—is priced at $20,000. The number 88 is a reference to the speed required for the DeLorean time machine to travel.
The affordable Epiphone ES-345 costs $1,000, but they're no longer available.
It was released in a limited edition of 1,985 copies to commemorate the year of the film's premiere.
Includes a case with band graphics from the film and bonuses for fans: a "Flux Capacitor" backlight, Time Machine keys, and a Casio CA53W calculator watch.
