Oswald arrived in the USSR in 1959. He wanted to enroll at Moscow State University, but he was sent to Minsk, given an apartment, and a job as a lathe operator at the Minsk Lenin Radio Plant, where he received a higher salary. Pictured above, on the right, is senior engineer Stanislav Shushkevich, who would sign the Belovezh Accords on behalf of Belarus in 1991. Oswald, meanwhile, would leave for the United States in 1962, and on November 22, 1963, he would assassinate John F. Kennedy.

6. In 1924, a London muffin vendor was photographed balancing a tray of pastries on his head and ringing a bell to announce his door-to-door breakfast delivery.



These street vendors were a common sight in early 20th-century Britain, delivering fresh muffins and crumpets (a type of pancake) to homes before supermarkets and bakeries became widely available.

Muffin vendors often rented bells from local guilds, and some were fined for ringing them outside of designated hours, as the noise was considered a public nuisance in busy areas.

8. Tightrope Wedding in Toulouse, France, 1954



Bertie Omankowski and Roger Decugis were star tightrope walkers in the legendary Les Diables Blancs troupe, led by Bertie's father, Rudolph "Papa Rudy" Omankowski.

On May 22, 1954, they were married on a tightrope suspended over the Place du Capitole in Toulouse. Several meters above the crowd of spectators, Father Robert Simon, known as the flying priest, blessed them from a fire escape. Toulouse photographer Jean Dieuzaide captured the moment, perched on the shoulders of Pope Rudy, who balanced on the tightrope.
