A woman lost her dog, but found her three years later—by chance. Monica Mathis tried for a long time to find her missing dog, Hazel, but eventually gave up. However, three years later, she finally spotted Hazel, but in an unusual place—on a beer label. It turned out the brewery was advertising the dogs living at a local shelter.

A woman lost her dog, and three years later she saw it on a beer can.

Monica Mathis lost her puppy, Hazel, in 2017 while living in Iowa—the dog simply disappeared from her home.

I looked for her, called She had been trying to find shelters and couldn't find one.

Later, the woman moved to another state, Minnesota.

A few years later, Monica stumbled upon a story about a brewery helping homeless dogs.

Monica saw a story on social media about Motorway Brewery, a brewery in Florida, helping shelter dogs find homes. Photos of the dogs, along with their names and short stories, were printed on beer cans to attract potential adopters. And one of the photos seemed familiar to Monica, the woman told ABC Action News:

I saw one of the dogs on the can and thought, "Oh my God, she looks so much like mine."

Monica immediately contacted the shelter.

It turned out that the dog, whom the shelter named Day Day, had a microchip with Monica's name. But since the woman had changed her last name, shelter workers were unable to locate Day Day's owner. Monica sent the shelter documents confirming that Day Day was her dog, and that her name was actually Hazel.

Monica and the shelter staff still can't believe the coincidence.

After all, only four dogs' portraits were printed on the cans, and the incident occurred in Florida—2,800 kilometers from where Monica lived. It's unknown how the dog got to Florida from Iowa, but anything could have happened in three years. The dog will be returned to Monica next week, and a volunteer organization will pay for the trip. And not only the owner but also the brewery is happy about this outcome—after all, their method proved effective!
