On Monday, the luxury cruise ship Wonder of the Seas was forced to return to the Port of Miami. A simple argument between passengers near the children's pool escalated into a fight. "A verbal dispute between two men escalated into a physical altercation. The ship's captain decided to return to port and contact authorities," the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Police reported that both parties involved in the incident were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. They declined to file statements against each other.
Photos from the scene show the victim being loaded into an ambulance.
Wonder of the Seas departed Monday afternoon. It was scheduled to cruise the Bahamas and return to Florida on Friday.
The ship, owned by Royal Caribbean, is 362 meters long and can accommodate approximately 7,000 passengers and 2,000 crew members. It is considered one of the largest cruise ships in the world.
Royal Caribbean confirmed that it is cooperating with authorities.
"Our crew provided medical assistance to the passengers, who are currently undergoing treatment for their injuries," the company said in a statement.
