On August 31, 1997, tragedy struck: Princess Diana died in a car accident. On the same day, but in 1897, Thomas Edison received a patent for his invention, the kinetograph. And in 1888, Jack the Ripper's first victim was found. As we can see, history is made every day. However, if we forget about it, the achievements, battles, hard work and lessons can disappear. Dogs played an important role in ancient Roman art: they were depicted on walls, in mosaics, and even celebrated in poetry.

The Romans wrote books on how to breed, train, and care for dogs. Some of their pets wore exquisite collars decorated with gold and other precious details.

The Romans did not forget their pets even after their death. They erected tombstones with touching inscriptions for them. Here are some of them:

"I cried when I carried you to your final resting place, as much as I rejoiced when I brought you home 15 years ago."

"My eyes were full of tears when I carried you, our little dog, to the grave. Patricius, never again will you give me a thousand kisses."
