In Canada, a fish that fell from the sky de-energized a village and caused a fire (4 photos)
A fire broke out and power outages occurred in the Canadian province of British Columbia due to fish falling from the sky. This was reported on Facebook* by the Ashcroft fire brigade.
Shortly before noon, rescuers were called to extinguish a fire in an area south of the city, the report says. The fire broke out near the highway.
When the crew arrived at the scene, it turned out that employees of the road and energy companies, as well as workers from the historic Ashcroft Ranch, were already actively fighting the fire, rescuers said. It took about 18,000 liters of water to extinguish the fire, which covered an area of about 60x90 m.
"A quick investigation revealed the cause of the fire. You won't believe it - it was a fish! Yes, you read that right. This fish had traveled an incredible distance, considering that the nearest river is located 3 km to the east of the incident. Probably, a local fishing eagle released its catch in the air, it fell on a power line, creating sparks, which, together with the fish, fell on the dry grass below," the firefighters explained.
Rescuers assume that the tired bird dropped the fish because it was too heavy and the day was hot.
"Another version? Perhaps the eagle got tired of raw fish and wanted to try baked fish. We are unlikely to know the truth, but it has been confirmed that our main "suspect" was not injured and is still flying freely," the firefighters summarize.
They later joked that "the suspect was caught and is being held for questioning, but the judge did not approve bail because of the high risk of escape."
