Top secret project killed employees of Area 51 (4 photos)

Area 51 is a top-secret US Air Force facility in the Nevada desert. Conspiracy theorists believe it is home to a base for studying alien technology. Eyewitnesses have reported seeing unidentified flying objects. It may all be a hoax. However, a US Air Force veteran has revealed how he and his fellow servicemen suffered from an "invisible killer."





Testifying before the Veterans Affairs Committee, former Air Force Sergeant David Creath said the left side of his brain was "dying" due to atrophy. From 1983 to 1987, he worked at the Nevada Test Site. Now, the older man is fighting to provide support for Area 51 veterans, many of whom are denied medical care because they can’t prove they were exposed to radiation. Their work was so classified that there are no official records.



Krit says about 490 of his co-workers died of serious illnesses, including cancer, after serving at the nuclear test site. Their families were likely affected by the radiation, too.

“My wife had three miscarriages. One of the guys I worked with, his wife had seven miscarriages,” he said.

"All four of my children were born with birth defects or serious health problems. It's not their fault. I'm not saying it's my fault, but I brought it home."





The only recognition of his service came from the late Senator John McCain, who said the Crete unit "ended the Cold War."

Air Force technician Mark Ely served at the base in the 1980s. His health also suffered, and he believes his illnesses are due to radiation exposure while serving.

"Protecting national interests turned out to be more important than my life. Because of this, I developed serious health problems. My lungs were damaged, cysts appeared on my liver and lipomas - tumors inside the body that had to be removed. The mucous membrane of the bladder peeled off."
