In China, woman falls into coma after "therapeutic" tanning (2 photos)
In Zhejiang Province, a 67-year-old Chinese woman decided to try one of the folk methods on herself: she lay under the scorching sun for two hours, hoping to “warm up energy” and cure diseases. 
A resident of the Chinese province of Zhejiang, known by the surname Wang, ended up in a coma after a long stay in the sun. She decided to use a common folk method that promised to improve health through sunbathing, which supposedly helps to “drive out dampness” and “warm up energy.” On one particularly hot day, the woman spent about two hours lying face down in the sun.
When Wang returned home, she suddenly lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed a ruptured brain aneurysm, which caused a cerebral hemorrhage and a dangerous herniated disc. Despite emergency surgery, the woman's condition remained critical and she fell into a coma. 
Dr. Ye Xianming, head of the rehabilitation department at the provincial People's Hospital, said the patient had suffered severe brain damage, and prolonged immobility increased the risk of complications. However, after a lengthy rehabilitation process that included surgery and acupuncture, Wang began to recover: she learned to sit, stand, talk, and even eat on her own. However, the effects of the stroke remain.
The doctor also noted that the belief in healing through sunbathing has no scientific evidence. He warned that prolonged exposure to the sun, especially on hot days, can be extremely dangerous for the elderly and those suffering from hypertension or vascular disease, as it can lead to strokes and heat strokes.
