I spent years wandering the streets, eating scraps. My only goal was to find a bench to sleep on. I couldn’t get a job, despite all my efforts. My lack of skills and family (I grew up in a waiting room) only made things worse. One day, I came across a college that was having an open day. I thought it was a great chance to take advantage of the facilities. Little did I know, the Universe had something special in store for me. A psychologist approached me at the door. He asked if I was coming to the open day. I lied and ended up joining him as he was telling me about the countless opportunities. I was particularly interested in the surgical technology program. I decided to give it a try.

I ended up finding my calling. I studied for 18 months, and then did an internship for another 4 months. I was homeless the entire time. After graduation, I was offered a permanent job at the same hospital where I did my internship. After four years, I had enough experience to pass the CSFA exam. Since then, I have been working as a surgical assistant. Every day I remember how lucky everything was.
