On Monday morning, near the Florida border, a police officer pulled over 53-year-old Leonard Allan Cure for speeding. An argument between the two led to a deputy shooting Cure to death.
Twenty years ago, Cure was arrested for armed robbery and assault at a Walgreens store in Dania Beach, Florida. A jury convicted Cure and sentenced him to life in prison, but a judge overturned the conviction in 2020 after a review board acquitted him.
