Sometimes a single frame tells a story better than a thousand words. This collection presents 10 such stories at once.

Unique shots of lost worlds, rare animals and architectural wonders are united by one common feature: they make you stop and think. Although there is no common theme, there are emotions, discoveries and moments that you want to keep in your memory.

1. Passage du Gois

Passage du Gois is a road in France that runs along the bottom of the Gulf of Bourgneuf. This road lives according to the tide schedule: for several hours a day it hospitably stretches out between the sea and the sky, and then, without warning, disappears into the abyss. Passage du Gois does not forgive mistakes: if you hesitate, you will have to wait for rescuers or... the next low tide.

2. Eagle parrot

Imagine a bird that seems to have flown from the pages of a Gothic novel: a blood-red belly, coal-black wings and a piercing gaze. This is the eagle, griffon or Dracula parrot - the only gourmet in the world, ready to perform dizzying acrobatic tricks in the treetops of New Guinea for the sake of its favorite delicacy - figs.

3. The Black House Village of Gearrannan

Garenin is a coastal village on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. These walls remember the ancient whisper of the Atlantic. Gearrannan is a village where people and animals lived under one roof. Thick stone walls without windows (the houses only had a door) and a roof made of peat or straw protected from the Atlantic winds. Smoke from the fireplace escaped through gaps in the thatched roof. Therefore, everything inside was black with soot and grime. The village has been restored and is open to visitors as an open-air museum.

4. Shelter on Monte Cristallo

An amazing place on Mount Cristallo, Auronzo di Cadore, Italy. This is one of the highest mountain shelters in the Dolomites. It was built in 1915 by the Austro-Hungarian army to protect the front line. The walls have retained bullet holes and soldiers' inscriptions. Inside there are original wooden bunks and a stove. Today it is a shelter for climbers (open from June to September). It has 12 beds, but no electricity or water.

5. Bacteria on the bristles

This is what the bristles of a toothbrush look like after just one use.

6. Jeju City (South Korea)

Local cherries (Jeju royal cherry) are different from Japanese sakura. Their petals are larger and rich pink. The main street of the city in early April turns into a pink tunnel of 1000 trees. Cherry blossoms are the moment when nature takes a brush and in a few days repaints the entire island in the colors of spring.

7. Deer in the palm of your hand

The little deer, or kanchil (lat. Tragulus javanicus) is a species of mammal from the family of deer, the smallest cetacean-ungulate on the planet. They feed on fallen fruits and mushrooms, like forest orderlies. They can dive and hold their breath, escaping from predators. If Thumbelina decided to get a pet, it would definitely be a mouse deer.

8. Amager Bakke

The Amager Bakke waste incineration plant in Copenhagen, which converts 440,000 tons of waste per year into clean energy. Its roof has become a public space. It features a ski slope, a climbing wall, and hiking trails with a viewing platform offering panoramic views of the city.

9. House in Rhode Island

A house in Richmond, built in the style of "The Lord of the Rings" with a round door, a turf roof and a stone facade. This is not a film set, but a real house (used as a guest cottage). It has a fireplace, wooden furniture and stained glass windows, just like in the Shire. It was built by enthusiastic Tolkien fans, but it looks like it grew up here itself.

10. Melanistic Leopard

The melanistic leopard (black panther) is a leopard with a genetic mutation that causes it to overproduce melanin. These amazing creatures are found in the Tadoba-Andhari National Park (Maharashtra, India). They are very rare in the wild. The Tadoba leopard is not just an animal, but an embodiment of mystery, a creature that nature has painted with soot, leaving only a hint of a spotted pattern under the velvety darkness.
