Fast food giant McDonald's has installed an artificial ancient Roman mosaic in Rome, depicting people eating burgers and French fries.
An unusual art object has appeared in the historical center of Rome — an advertising mosaic from McDonald's, stylized as ancient Roman traditions. It depicts ancient citizens gobbling up French fries and burgers with gusto. Some passersby smile, seeing this as a witty anachronism, while others are outraged, considering such an invasion of the cultural landscape disrespectful.
Professor Barone, an expert in antiquity, suggests looking at it differently. In his opinion, the mosaic does not desecrate the heritage, but becomes its modern continuation — a light but apt allegory of consumer society. After all, if the ancient Romans left their descendants with images of feasts, why not imagine what they might look like today?
