Inside an abandoned McDonald's diner frozen in time (6 photos)
Tourist discovers abandoned McDonald's, frozen in time with plates creepily left on tables and retro booths.
Ben James from Cambridge took impressive pictures an abandoned diner he stumbled upon while in Chicago.
The retro McDonald's was pictured covered in dust, with half empty milkshake glasses left on the tables as if the visitors left in a hurry.
As plates and cutlery are strewn across the tables for four persons and the menus are still open, the restaurant looks as if it could still have lively service.
But the Art Deco diner was left to its own devices. elements, and the chairs in the post-apocalyptic setting were crooked.
The 32-year-old explored the abandoned diner for about two hours and managed to capture empty plates and glasses, as well as an old school decor.
The diner has been abandoned since 2017 and there were rumors that one of the then managers robbed the diner and fled.
But although in Ben's photographs the interior of the diner looked intact enough for use, the kitchen told quite another story about why McDonald's may have been quickly abandoned.
The researcher said the fire had spread throughout the kitchen, rendering it completely unusable.
Although the diner was once a popular, bustling McDonald's, now it was "uncomfortably quiet" as the brave fellow explored building.
He was surprised at how well the diner was kept, given that it has been empty and collecting dust for more than five years.
But Ben thinks that after a little cleaning, the restaurant could be open for business tomorrow.
