What games made you fall asleep with the lights on?

Dead Space

- The first original Dead Space. I had to wait until morning to play.

- I'll never forget the summer of 2008, it was very late, everyone was sleeping, there was dead silence and only I, 14-15 years old, was playing Xbox in my room.

I was surfing the Xbox Live Store and found a free demo of Dead Space. I downloaded it and... I didn't sleep a second that night.

To this day, my #1 horror game.

- I'll never forget the mutant dog breaking the window of the mansion. My friend's older brother specially started RE1 from the beginning to show me that scene! I grew up and loved the Resident Evil franchise and horror movies, but because of that moment, I fell asleep with a night light on for about three years.

- I was 7-8 years old, visiting my second cousins for the first time. They had a PS1, they let me play. I turn it on — the Resident Evil 1 disc is already inserted. I have no idea what it is. The opener (it's funny now) scared me, but I continued. I wander around the mansion, get to the first zombie, where this scene begins:

No-no-no-no-no. I turned it off and ran home as fast as I could.

A couple of years later, when Resident Evil 2 came out, the series became one of my favorites. But I never went back to the first part. It scared me too much then.

Silent Hill

- I still couldn't finish this game. I got stuck on the part with the phone. Monsters, dark corridors... okay.

But that call, the girl's scream: "Daddy, help!" - and then silence... It was too much.

Bioshock

- The first Bioshock on Xbox 360 scared me as a teenager too. Fort Frolic, especially the audio diaries, are something I still think about once a week, even though it's been 13 years.

- The moment that scared me the most was when you pick up the shotgun and all the lights go out and then screams come from the darkness...

Max Payne

- I remember watching my dad play Max Payne and how creepy it was to see his wife and child get murdered. I still remember that damn level with the blood trail and the crying baby.

Outlast

- Oh my god, this game is so scary. The first meeting with this big guy Chris Walker, who is prowling in the dark through the sewers...

I can't see anything, and his grunting gets louder and louder, then he makes a surprised sound - and I realized that he found me... After that, I turned off the game. Too tense.

Eternal Darkness

- The madness effects in this game were amazing. For those who don't know, as your character saw more and more strange things, he lost "sanity" (the bar at the bottom of the screen). The lower the sanity bar, the stronger the effects were. They could be visual, audio, or even affect the controls.

Examples: random voices in the speakers, cockroaches crawling across the screen, jumping sound volume, bleeding walls, the character suddenly shooting at invisible monsters, and then - bam! — "a bullet hole" on the screen itself... Or a message "Thank you for playing the demo", and then an "announcement" of a fake sequel...

But this save screen, where they tell you "your data has been deleted" is one of the cruelest pranks in the history of games.

Aliens vs Predator (1999)

- Before this game, no other game had ever caused me such wild horror. Pitch darkness, the last light bomb, 13 bullets in the smart gun, and the motion sensor beeps more and more often... An object is 35 meters away... 30... 25... 15... 5! I throw the saber, prepare for battle... and nothing. The sensor goes silent, there is no enemy. The light of the saber goes out - and then a scream is heard behind me. I almost broke the screen from surprise.

And these facehuggers. Once I jumped back so abruptly that I fell over in my chair and broke the cabinet door.

One of my most vivid gaming memories.
