Xiaomi Group has published a report on its activities for the first quarter of 2025, from which it follows that the concern's automobile division is systematically increasing the production of electric cars, but is still incurring losses. On average, the division loses up to 6,500 yuan (just over $900) on each unit sold, but it is expected that Xiaomi Auto will be able to turn a profit in the coming months.
In the first quarter of 2025, Xiaomi's division, working in the field of electric vehicles and innovations in the field of artificial intelligence, was able to earn 18.6 billion yuan. At the same time, the operating loss amounted to 500 million yuan. The average loss per car is calculated based on delivery dаta: Xiaomi delivered about 76 thousand SU7 electric cars to customers in the first months of this year.
Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing noted that the concern's automobile business is still at an early stage of development, but as production scales up, losses will decrease. For example, last summer it was reported that each electric car sold brings the company expenses in the amount of $ 9,200 - thus, the average weighted loss has decreased almost tenfold in less than a year.
Lu Weibing also spoke about the market potential of the second Xiaomi model - the YU7 crossover, which may be more in demand than the SU7 sedan. According to the company's estimates, the audience's interest in the new product is now about three times higher than that previously shown for the sedan at the same launch stage.
