As part of the challenge, he organised a fundraiser for a charity supported by his wife.
The story began in 2018, when Matt Jones had hip replacement surgery. At the time, the surgeon ordered the man to refrain from physical activity. His wife Vicky reacted emotionally to the doctor's recommendations, joking: "This idiot will go to Hlagohlen with a fridge on his back."
For Jones, his wife's words sounded like a challenge. The former Marine said he could do it twice. Some time later, his wife suddenly died of heart disease at the age of 43. The man was left alone to raise four children, but he never forgot his wife's words.
As a result, he decided to accept the challenge in memory of his beloved. Jones achieved his goal by walking 112km with a 37kg fridge in a fundraising challenge for a charity supported by his wife. He was given £50,000.
