By giving his wife a kidney, the man wanted to save her life.
Richard Baptiste went to court after divorcing his wife, whose life he saved. The wife filed for divorce and the man decided to return his property, or rather his organ. Once he became a kidney donor for his wife. After the divorce, the man demanded either his kidney or £1.2 million back. Richard said in court that by donating a kidney he saved his wife’s life, despite the fact that the marriage was already falling apart at the seams, writes the Independent.
However, the Supreme Court rejected Baptiste's claims. He ruled that the kidney was a gift to the wife and could not be returned, nor compensation. After the man went to court, doctors ordered a ban on removing the kidney from the woman.
The court also stated that if the man insists on returning the kidney, he will face a criminal case.
"Richard's attempts to obtain monetary compensation not only violate statutory regulations, but may also expose him to criminal prosecution," the court said in a statement.
