A boy's hand was sucked into a pool filter in Mallorca (5 photos)
A 4-year-old British boy was on holiday with his parents at the Zafiro Hotel in Can Picafort, Majorca. On June 1, the boy was swimming in the pool and stuck his hand in the filter, requiring the help of lifeguards.
The suction created a vacuum, and the little tourist's hand got stuck. Rescuers had to drain the pool and dig out the pipe.
Local publication Diario de Mallorca reported that the services acted very carefully so as not to harm the child. He was given a helmet and headphones. They reached the pipe in half an hour and freed the boy. He was taken to the hospital, where he was examined and found to have no serious injuries.
It turned out that the filter did not have a grate.
Hotel representatives said that the boy's family "expressed gratitude for the quick response of the entire team."
Other hotels have already had accidents due to pool filters.
For example, last year in Texas, an eight-year-old girl died. Due to an incorrectly connected pump, she was sucked into one of the pool pipes; her body was found only 13 hours later. It was determined that the child died of "drowning and mechanical asphyxia." The pipe that was supposed to supply water, on the contrary, sucked it in, resulting in a tragedy.
