A major landslide threat has been declared in the Swiss village of Blatten. Authorities have decided to evacuate not only people, but also livestock. Cows, for example, were evacuated using helicopters.
Swiss authorities have evacuated residents and livestock from the Alpine village of Blatten in the Lötschental Valley, located in the south of the country, after instability in the soil threatened a major landslide.
According to authorities, 300 people and 52 cows have been evacuated from the danger zone. While some of the animals were transported on foot or by road, helicopters had to be used to transport others, ensuring the safety of farm animals in the difficult mountainous terrain.
The administration reported that they cannot yet give a time frame for when residents will be able to return to their homes. The decision to evacuate was made as a precaution, since geologists have recorded signs of possible soil displacement in the area of the settlement.
