Hot Wheels will release prefabricated cars based on Lego for the first time (8 photos)
The famous manufacturer of collectible cars Hot Wheels has announced an unusual expansion of its product range. This summer, for the first time in history, the brand will launch construction kits that allow you to assemble large-scale models from hundreds of parts. This technology is known mainly from numerous Lego sets, but Hot Wheels has already come up with several ways to distinguish itself from competitors.
The company places special emphasis on the fact that the construction kit will include metal parts in addition to plastic ones. The assembled model can be personalized with replaceable additional “spare parts” and various stickers. Finally, each assembly model will come with a smaller copy of itself, made in the traditional Hot Wheels way - from metal and at a scale of 1:64. You can't buy these cars except as part of a set.
Hot Wheels plans to release seven such construction sets in total. The flagship of the line will be the Mercedes-Benz 300SL model in 1:12 scale, which will have to be assembled from 1,600 parts. This construction set costs $120. More affordable cars, at $50, have a scale of 1:16 and consist of 800-900 parts. For example, the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, Acura NSX from the 1990s, and a 1962 Chevrolet pickup truck will be released in this form.
The family will also include very budget construction sets, including about 200 "bricks". In a scale of 1:32, the company will release a Maserati MC20, a Chevrolet Camaro from the same 1962, and a Cadillac GTP supercar.
It is separately noted that for the sake of greater creative freedom, Hot Wheels designers will make them compatible with similar offerings from other brands. Accordingly, if desired, the owner of a Hot Wheels set will be able to build a full-fledged custom using, for example, Lego parts.
