Scientists Have Come Up with a New Way to Grow Artificial Meat (5 photos)

While the civilized world is slowly getting used to eating insects, scientists are actively inventing artificial meat, because it is dangerous to raise cows, they fart.





Japanese scientists have long thought about why their colleagues have not been able to make much progress in the technology of creating fake meat, and have come to the conclusion that the main problem in creating lab meat is the lack of oxygen in the center of the pieces of tissue, which causes the cells to die.



To solve the size problem, Professor Shoji Takeuchi of the University of Tokyo built a bioreactor that traps living cells in a gel and feeds them oxygen and nutrients through thin, semi-permeable fibers that run through the material. As a result, the scientists were able to grow an 11-gram piece of chicken that mimics the structure and texture of real chicken meat.





Researchers believe that the technology can be used to produce chicken, beef, pork and fish, and in the future, even to grow organs.



The technology is still complex and expensive, but scientists are not giving up and believe that with the development of this industry, the price of the finished product will significantly decrease, which will allow it to successfully compete with natural meat.



According to preliminary estimates, artificially grown meat could appear on store shelves in 5-10 years, just in time for the unfortunate humanity to become completely mired in insect products.
