A new study reveals how much meat you can eat without harming the environment. Experts from the Technical University of Denmark have calculated the norm for an adult.

It turns out that you can eat no more than 255 grams of chicken or pork per week without harming the planet. This is about the same as two chicken breasts or one pork chop. But what about lovers of beef, veal, lamb and venison? According to scientists, it is worth giving up red meat completely.

“We found that even small amounts of red meat in the human diet are incompatible with how much the planet can regenerate,” said Caroline H. Gebara, lead author of the study.

“Most people understand the need to reduce their meat consumption for environmental and health reasons,” Gebara said. “But it’s hard to know how much to reduce and how that will impact the overall picture.”

The team considered a variety of environmental factors.

They calculated carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, water use, and land use.

They also looked at the environmental and health benefits of more than 100,000 variations of 11 popular diets. Unfortunately for meat lovers, their calculations show that even moderate consumption of red meat is unsustainable. But a small amount of poultry or pork is fine.

"We came up with a specific number — 255 grams of meat per week. That's an amount you can easily visualize and factor into your grocery shopping," says Gebara.

Pescatarians, vegetarians, and vegans can enjoy their favorite foods without guilt.

"Our research shows that you can eat cheese and still be healthy and sustainable. The same goes for eggs, fish and white meat. But of course, the rest of your diet will be relatively healthy and healthy. But it doesn't have to be either-or," the expert noted.
