I'm Sure He Thinks Demi Is His Wife: Bruce Willis's Wife Wrote a Book (8 photos)
Emma Heming Willis shared her memories of how she first learned about her husband's terrible illness. In March 2022, the famous actor Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia - a pathology that leads to memory loss and disorientation in space and time.
"I wrote the book I wish I had received the day we were diagnosed," Emma wrote on social media, unveiling the cover of her book last Thursday, April 17.
"I am convinced that this book will be a help to a person caring for someone who is sick. It is filled with support, understanding and hope, which are so necessary."
Bruce Willis' wife, Emma, shared the cover of her new book
"An unexpected path. Find strength, hope and self-control in helping a loved one."
This book shows the reality that loved ones face when watching a loved one's health deteriorate.
"I bet he thinks Demi is his wife," one user commented on the news.
Another wrote: "He was one of my favorite actors and I admire the way Emma Heming takes care of him."
"I hope she spoke to those who are nursing a sick person alone 24/7 when she wrote this. I'm sure she has many opportunities to get help that many of us can't afford. Praying for everyone going through this, it's the most inhumane disease I've ever encountered," a third said.
Bruce and Demi Moore, who divorced in 2000 after 13 years of marriage, remain on good terms. They are parents to three daughters — Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah — and are often photographed together in a warm family setting.
For Emma, Bruce's progressing condition meant that the boundaries between past and present could easily blur.
By sharing her experiences, the model wants to draw attention to the problems of those who care for the sick.
The couple married in 2009
Reflecting on the recent death of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa, Emma urged people to recognize how hard caregiving can be.
"Carers need support, too," she said. "It's important that we care for them so they can continue to care for their loved ones."
Emma and Bruce first met in 2007. According to rumors, they were introduced by a mutual friend at the gym. By that time, Bruce had already gotten over his breakup with Demi Moore. They quickly began a relationship, and in March 2009, the lovers tied the knot in a ceremony that took place on the British islands of Turks and Caicos. Among the guests were Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.
In 2012, the couple had their first daughter, Mabel Ray, and in 2014, their second, Evelyn Penn.
“He can make me laugh like no one else,” Emma said in an interview. — When things get tough, he's always the one who's there for me."
Research is underway to find a cure for frontotemporal dementia, a rare condition that deprives people of independence
Their relationship only grew stronger when Bruce began to have health problems. Emma not only became his wife and the mother of their children, but also proved herself to be his most devoted protector and helper.
In recent years, she has been actively drawing attention to the problem of frontotemporal dementia and the realities of caring for the sick.
Frontotemporal dementia is a neurodegenerative disease. It is a relatively rare pathology, 15-22 cases per 100,000 people aged 45 to 64 years. Symptoms include changes in behavior, speech, and executive functions, which seriously affects a person's independence.
There is currently no effective treatment for this disorder, but research is actively being conducted to develop better diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
