A Briton turned a bomb from World War II into a beer fridge (4 photos)
While mowing his garden, Ross Miller discovered an 11-kilogram (25-pound) casing of a 1940s aerial bomb.
As it turned out, the previous owners of the house knew about the buried metal object, but mistakenly believed it to be part of a water pipe. After carefully examining the find, Ross noticed a percussion cap and the date "1940", after which he called the police.
Explosive ordnance disposal specialists quickly arrived at the scene. After a thorough inspection, they determined that it was indeed an aerial bomb, but without explosives. To everyone's relief, it posed no danger.
An unexpected turn of events occurred when the sappers, having completed their inspection, returned the casing to its owner. Ross, whose planned barbecue was cancelled due to the alarm, has found a creative use for the find.
"I'm going to polish it up and use it as a beer cooler - just put ice and bottles in it," he said.
