A father left his child in the wild to punish his wife for refusing sex (2 photos)
A drug-addicted father in Thailand has been accused of abandoning his two-week-old baby in the wild to get revenge on his wife for refusing him sex immediately after giving birth.
A 21-year-old man surnamed Wuttichai has been arrested by police and charged with drug possession after his wife, 22-year-old Oratai, exposed the incident on March 21.
Wuttichai took his two-week-old son to a banana grove, took a photo of the baby lying on the ground and sent it to his wife, who was visiting a friend.
Shocked, Oratai immediately reported the incident to the village head and posted their correspondence online to publicly rebuke her husband.
The police launched an investigation and tracked down the family. Oratai complained to the police that her husband was a drug addict and gambler. He also constantly used violence against her and their eldest child, who was one year old. The couple had been arguing because she did not want to have sex with him so soon after giving birth.
Wuttichai denied the charges and said he only placed his sleeping son in a banana grove for a photo and had no intention of abandoning him. He admitted asking his wife for sex many times.
Police tested his urine after his wife claimed he was a drug addict and the results came back positive. He now faces drug charges and will undergo rehabilitation as required by law.
The potential penalty for abandoning a child under nine years of age without causing further injury to the child is up to three years in prison and a fine of 6,000 baht (US$180).
