A light aircraft crashed during an air show in Australia (4 photos + 1 video)
The pilot was very lucky, he survived.
A light aircraft Pitts Special crashed in front of hundreds of spectators at the Australian airport "Avalon". The air incident occurred on Friday afternoon during the Australian International Airshow "Avalon".
It is noted that the plane crashed while performing an aerobatic maneuver "loop". Judging by the video, the pilot made a mistake - he miscalculated the altitude, which was not enough for him to level the plane after the turn. As a result, the aircraft hit the runway with its belly, turning into a pile of metal. Fortunately, there was no explosion after the impact with the ground. According to local media, the 50-year-old pilot survived, but received serious injuries. He is currently in hospital in serious condition. After the incident, the air show organizers announced the suspension of the remaining program.
Victoria police, where the incident occurred, reported that the Pitts Special crashed a significant distance from the spectators. However, the ABC television channel, citing eyewitnesses, writes that the aircraft crashed "several hundred meters from the crowd." One way or another, but none of the spectators were injured. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) sent a team of investigators to the scene.

Recall that a week ago a similar incident occurred in South Africa. At the West Coast Air Show in the city of Saldanha, a turbojet Impala crashed. The pilot did not have time to eject and died on the spot. And four days earlier in the French Saint-Dizier, two Alpha Jet jets from the Patrouille de France aerobatic team collided during a rehearsal. Fortunately, the pilots survived.
