In India, they figured out how to deal with old cars (3 photos)
What to do if there are a lot of people in your country who simply cannot afford to buy a new car and continue to actively use prehistoric equipment that pollutes the already dirty air of the capital? For those who don’t know, India has real problems with clean air.
Since 2015, the local government has been actively trying to fight cars, even introducing restrictions on the movement of old cars in New Delhi, but this did not really help.
Now they have declared a “war” on cars older than 15 years. It is illegal to confiscate them from the population, after all, it is private property, but you can make a knight's move and simply prohibit... refueling them.
Starting March 31, 2025, a ban on refueling cars with conventional engines that have reached the age of 10 years for diesel cars and 15 years for gasoline cars will come into effect in the capital. To monitor gas stations, cameras will be installed that will be able to recognize the age of vehicles by their numbers using artificial intelligence.
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa told reporters that the decision to stop supplying fuel to older vehicles was taken at a "multi-day meeting" on air pollution to "identify diseases and their cures."
No compensation will be provided to owners of older vehicles.
