The latest US fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet has crashed at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. Footage that has surfaced online shows the plane spinning in the air and plummeting.
The pilot ejected and was uninjured. The cause of the incident has not yet been released.
Colonel Paul Townsend, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, said the pilot was in the process of landing during a training exercise when his plane experienced an “in-flight malfunction” that forced him to eject. He said the pilot was performing routine procedures when the crash occurred. Townsend said the pilot was taken to a nearby medical facility and is being evaluated, with his condition listed as “safe and stable.”
