Last Saturday, a ski lift collapsed at the Astun ski resort in Aragon, Spain. At least 30 people were injured, 10 of whom were hospitalized.
Another 80 people were trapped at a height of 15 m, they were soon evacuated.
"It felt like the cable broke, the chairs jumped, and people were thrown out," an eyewitness said.
Several helicopters were sent to rescue people stuck on the chairlift and transport the victims to the nearest medical facilities.
"Two people were seriously injured, we are currently monitoring their condition. Fortunately, the incident in Astuna had less consequences than expected. This was largely due to the rapid and coordinated work of the services that participated in the rescue operation and provided assistance to the victims," said the head of the Aragon government, Jorge Azcon.
A skier named Oscar shared in an interview with a local channel: "It looks like it broke or got weak the pulley wheel, the cable started to twitch, and every time it happened, we were thrown up. We were lucky to hold on, but there were people in front of us who fell to the ground and were hit in the face and other parts of the body."
The exact reasons for what happened are still unknown.
