“Please don’t die”: a boy saved his parents injured by a tornado (6 photos)

9-year-old Branson Baker and his parents were desperately seeking shelter from the tornadoes that were tearing through Oklahoma when they found themselves directly in the path of the deadly storm. A powerful wind picked up their car and threw it into the thicket of trees. The pickup truck was mangled and the passengers were seriously injured.





Wayne and Lindy Baker suffered broken backs, necks, and ribs. The man also broke his arm and lost part of a finger, and his wife suffered a broken jaw and right arm. She also had a punctured lung.

The son was sitting behind his parents, he managed to get out of the car and run a couple of kilometers in the dark to the nearest house.



"Branson found his way back thanks to lightning lighting the way. He ran as fast as he could and covered the mile in 10 minutes. Impressive for a small child," said Branson's uncle, Johnny Baker.

The boy told his parents: “Mom, dad, please don’t die, I’ll come back.”





Johnny was talking on the phone with his brother when the tragedy occurred. At that moment he heard “the unimaginable” and immediately rushed to search. And he found the family at the moment when Branson's help arrived on the scene.



The boy's baseball team held a fundraiser for his parents.

Wayne and Lindy are still in the intensive care unit, but Johnny Baker remains optimistic that the couple will recover soon.



"He was forced to become a superhero for his parents. And he did it. He saved them," Johnny added.

On April 27, 15 tornadoes swept through the state of Oklahoma. At least five people were killed and dozens were injured.
