Owls are a powerful product of evolution
Owls are a powerful product of evolution. A perfectly adapted predator. We are amused by their appearance, but everything is thought out to the smallest detail. Judge for yourself.
It turns out that owls are... long-legged! They just carefully hide it behind their rich plumage!
Owls have a specific facial disc. It is covered with small feathers tightly adjacent to each other.
The facial discs of owls are designed to effectively transmit sound to the ears. A kind of locator. This makes their hearing particularly acute. The ear openings are located asymmetrically, thus forming volumetric hearing.
For their specific appearance, owls began to be considered wise birds. And the main reason is their large eyes and special look.
The eyes are cylindrical and motionless. The owl sees well in the ultraviolet range. The head can turn at an angle of 270 degrees vertically and horizontally. Although because of these eyes, the brain volume of owls is proportionally smaller than that of many other bird species.
Owls have a tiny brain, in which there is almost no room for intelligence. Owls are not trainable and cannot cope even with the simplest tests - for example, pulling a string to get a treat.
The situation with the brain, of course, is out of line with the idea that owls are "ideal evolutionary machines." On the other hand, maybe owls don't really need a brain and learning ability? After all, they feel great in their natural niche.
