Emotional Reunion: Man Finds Pet That Survived a Fire (8 photos + 1 video)
A video of a California resident meeting his pet has appeared online. Casey Colvin is kneeling at his neighbor's gate, calling his pet and asking, "Hey, honey, how's the fire?" as the gray dog runs up the hill toward him.
When the pet jumps into his arms, Colvin starts crying. He runs down the street shouting, "Glory to you, Jesus, glory to you, Lord."
He's been desperately trying to get to Oreo since Pacific Palisades caught fire early last week.
Colvin was at work when everyone was evacuated. He then spent five hours stuck in traffic trying to get home and rescue his pets Oreo and Tika-Tika-Tika. Firefighters were able to coax Tika-Tika out that day, but Oreo escaped.
Colvin's home burned hours later, one of more than 12,300 buildings in Los Angeles that were destroyed by the fire.
Colvin spent the next few days posting flyers about Oreo's disappearance, while reporter Liz Kreutz shared photos of the dog on social media.
Several residents reported seeing the fugitive, and finally, on Sunday, Colvin got help finding his beloved dog. He was spotted sleeping in the rubble of a neighbor's home.
Dozens of residents remain missing, and Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna warned that the death toll will likely continue to rise.
A CalFire spokesman said strong winds will continue Sunday through Wednesday, which could cause the deadly blaze to spread further.
People in areas not yet under evacuation orders but subject to Santa Ana winds are warned not to mow dry grass, park cars on grass, or light fires.
As of Sunday evening, the Palisades Fire, the largest of three blazes burning in Los Angeles, was 23,713 acres and 13% contained.
There are currently 24 known deaths.
