Extreme Hoonitruck pickup truck driven by Ken Block to be auctioned (16 photos + 2 videos)
Barrett-Jackson auction house will put up for auction what is possibly the most unusual 1977 Ford F-150 in the world. This is a race car with its own name, Hoonitruck, built according to the design of Ken Block by Detroit Speed studio and starring in several extreme videos of the Hoonigan team. The auctioneers do not specify how much they plan to get for the pickup, but in 2021, Block himself was ready to part with the car for $ 1.1 million.
It is generally accepted that Ken Block chose the 1977 Ford F-150 as the basis for the Hoonitruck as a tribute to his father. At the same time, there is practically nothing left from the donor on the finished car, except for some design nuances.
The Hoonitruck is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost, which the creators of the pickup borrowed from the developers of the Ford GT racing prototypes for Le Mans. The engine is also additionally upgraded and develops about 1000 hp and 950 Nm. It works with a 6-speed sequential Sadev gearbox and a custom all-wheel drive system.
The pickup starred in two official videos of the Hoonigan team: the tenth part of the YouTube series Gymkhana and the second episode of Climbkhana. Hoonitruck was specially delivered to China for it. In this episode, Ken Block climbs Tianmen Mountain in a pickup truck. A highway about 11 kilometers long leads to its top, including 99 turns and an altitude gain of more than a kilometer. The highway is considered one of the most dangerous roads in the world. Both videos on the team's YouTube channel have gained about 75 million views, and the same videos published on Hoonigan's sponsors' channels add another 10 million.
